Dr. Paul Cutarelli – All-Laser LASIK
Dr. Paul Cutarelli feels strongly that his patients should have access to the information they desire in order to make the best choices regarding their vision. He has performed well over 60,000 successful refractive procedures and always takes the time to ensure the highest quality of care for each of his patients. During your initial exam, Dr. Cutarelli will determine and discuss with you the type of vision correction he feels is in your best interest. In this article, Dr. Cutarelli will cover some of the decisions that need to be addressed before your LASIK eye surgery.
Dr. Paul Cutarelli explains that the type of laser vision correction surgery is one of the first choices that must be made before your presbyopia laser vision correction. You and Dr. Cutarelli must also decide how the corneal flap will be created. To perform LASIK vision correction, Dr. Cutarelli will create a thin flap in the cornea of your eye. Most patients feel little or no pain and do not see this occur. The flap is folded back and small amounts of tissue are removed from the middle layer of your cornea. It is this removal of tissue that corrects your vision. When the surgery is completed, the flap is gently folded back into place.
Dr. Paul Cutarelli further explains that there are two ways the LASIK flap may be created:
- Traditional LASIK technique using a slicing instrument called a microkeratome
- All-laser “bladeless” LASIK technique using a high-energy femtosecond laser
Dr. Paul Cutarelli feels that both techniques have advantages, but there are some consideration you should think about before making a choice. Dr. Cutarelli knows that the “bladeless” or all-laser LASIK may be more predictable, reduce the incidence of epithelial defects and can be customized for eyes with oval or asymmetrical surfaces. Dr. Cutarelli has seen this technique give patients a better quality of vision with fewer higher order aberrations during the first three months after surgery. However, the all-laser LASIK may cost more. Dr. Cutarelli also mentions that the all-laser LASIK takes about 10 seconds, while the traditional flap only takes three seconds.
